Berwick Ambulance News

BERWICK, Pa. –  Geisinger announced today that Berwick Area Ambulance Association (BAAA) intends to merge with Geisinger’s West Shore Advanced Life Support Services, Inc., which currently includes Danville Ambulance Service and Holy Spirit EMS–a Geisinger affiliate.

Representatives from these organizations agree that the merger, once approved by the state Attorney General’s Office, will help them collectively provide better emergency care for the region and support the local ambulance service’s presence well into the future.

“This partnership positions us to continually improve our quality and breadth of services in ways that we could not do independently,” said Chuck Humphrey, EMT, member of the BAAA Board. “We’re very excited to join this outstanding organization and work more closely with our colleagues from Geisinger.”

Under the new agreement, Berwick Area Ambulance will continue its current mission and services. Operations in Berwick and the areas served by its satellite stations will continue unchanged, and the team will continue its active relationships and linkages with regional hospitals, nursing homes, EMS, police, fire and all others involved in the healthcare and protection of the community. Geisinger will provide medical direction.

Berwick area ambulance, along with multiple other local fire, rescue, and law enforcement agencies, participated in a SADD drunk driving simulation to deter students from driving under the influence.  This event was focused on the upcoming Berwick Prom and created a scenario that first responders come across all too often during these types of events in hopes of preventing any such events this year.

Our MICUs 92 and 97 were accompanied by our Ambulance 96 and Squad 90 to provide real life EMS patient extraction, packing, and transport.  The county corner's office also provided personnel to simulate a fatality on scene.

The MetroCast Giving Back 5k Run/Walk event is intended to aid local military veterans that have applied for the Homeless Veteran program offered by the Wilkes-Barre VA.  The race took place April 9th, which turned out to be a cold snowy day, but still had an amazing turnout of participants wanting to show their support of our veterans.  Berwick Area Ambulance supported the event by providing two Basic Life Support units (one from Berwick and one from Nescopeck) for the event in case of an injury or medical emergency during the race.  Thankfully our service was not required and the event itself was huge success!
